The People’s History Project

The People’s History Project is Darin’s attempt to edit and publish the extraordinary stories of everyday people.

From peacewalkers to soldiers in the trenches, artists, oilmen, politicians, journalists and stay-at-home parents, we all have fascinating lives, and it’s important to tell future generations about them in our own words.

Since 2007, Darin has helped writers tell their histories from their perspective.

A fresh pair of eyes on a manuscript can offer suggestions about how to level-up storytelling, craft language and ensure the text is airtight so generations to come will understand what life was like in our wild times and not bust you on your crappy spelling.

If you're interested in printing your manuscript, Darin works with designers and printers to create books that
are worthy of the words inside.

Darin offers the following services

  • Write drunk, edit sober

    Content Editing

In a content edit, Darin clarifies and/or reorganizes a manuscript for content and structure. He clarifies meaning, eliminates jargon and polishes language.

To enhance the words, Darin assists with photo selection and placement in your manuscript.

  • Copy Editing

Darin completes a copy edit for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of style. He checks for internal consistency, clarifies meaning, eliminates jargon and polishes language.

  • Design & Printing

Whether you want to print copies for the family or sell your book, Darin works with a range of designers and print shops to ensure the end product complements the writing.

Previous Work

“Darin Steinkey is an excellent editor with a wealth of experience in non-fiction books. He made my book substantially better, which is what I wanted. His suggestions made revisions for clarity, tightness, pacing, etc. very easy to do because he took the time to explain the 'why' rather than just marking up the draft. Everything is explained, including the style guide used, the rationale behind making changes, even the basic legal and copyright issues that can arise when writing a non-fiction book.“

Nicole Salter, author of Warrior in the Mud: Childhood Trauma, Adult Drama, and Reclaiming My Toxic Life
